Our Mission

Children
We support projects that ensure a child’s basic needs are met in a safe, nurturing environment. Each child receives personal care and attention, with an emphasis on education and future self-reliance. NewDay Africa supports culturally appropriate projects, which nurture and improve the emotional, educational, medical, social, and cultural wellbeing of children. We offer orphaned children hope for a brighter future.

Water and Community Health
Water is essential for life and health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), water scarcity affects 40% of the global population. Africa is particularly vulnerable to this phenomenon. NewDay Africa works with local organizations to improve access to clean water. Our efforts focus on creating new wells, providing water purification, and promoting water conservation.

The WHO reported that 80% of the population in Africa uses traditional medicine for primary health care. Traditional medicine (TM), known as complementary or alternative medicine (CAM) in the United States, refers to natural healthcare practices used alone or in partnership with western medicine. Examples of TM include herbal medicine, Chinese/Oriental medicine, acupuncture, homeopathy, naturopathy, Ayurvedic medicine, spiritual therapies, and manual techniques and exercises. In Africa, herbal medicine is the most commonly used traditional medicine modality. For example, the WHO reported that the herb Artemisia annua effectively prevents one million malaria deaths per year, most of them from children. Additionally, the WHO stated that 75% of people living with HIV/AIDS in South Africa, London, and San Francisco use TM/CAM. The potential of TM/CAM to provide safe, effective, and affordable health care to those in need is tremendous. However, the WHO stressed that traditional remedies must be standardized and that training programs must be affordable and accessible to ensure that TM is used in a safe and effective manner. NewDay Africa supports programs that meet the World Health Organization’s standards for quality assurance.

Outreach and Community Development
Outreach and community development can be as simple as providing basic needs such as soap, fabric, mosquito netting, and food, and as complex as providing micro-financing and vocational training, or the implementation of ecologically sustainable projects such as organic farms and community gardens. NewDay Africa emphasizes outreach and community development initiatives that empower and improve the lives of women and children.
